I honestly can’t believe I’m typing those words. Mending Hearts is finally out in the world, and I’m feeling all these emotions—excitement, gratitude, a little bit of disbelief, and maybe just a touch of happy tears.
I’ve written women’s fiction, short memoirs and travelogues and one how-to book, but switching genres was one of the best decisions I’ve made in a while. Writing romance was one of the farthest things from my mind, and if you knew why, you would understand. But I am so glad I decided to write Mending Hearts.
Writing this book meant a lot to me. I’ve spent time with these characters, lived in their world, and cared deeply about where their story would take them. So here we are. Launch day. And I am so glad you’re here with me.

If you haven’t heard me talk about it yet, Mending Hearts is the first book in my Sunrise Beach series—a fictional coastal town tucked along the South Carolina coast between Pawley’s Island and Myrtle Beach.

The Story—and Why It Matters to Me
Mending Hearts is a later-in-life romance novel, which means my characters aren’t twenty-two and figuring out who they are. They’ve lived. They’ve loved and lost. They’re carrying things—the kind of things that happen when life doesn’t go the way you planned.
There’s something so hopeful about two people at this stage of life deciding they’re still worth loving—or still capable of it. That’s the heart of this story. It’s not a grand sweeping declaration, but a slow, quiet opening up. Rachel and Greg are two people learning to trust again, to let someone back in, and to believe that healing is still possible.
That theme means a lot to me personally. I think a lot of us reach a point where we wonder if we’ve missed our moment. Mending Hearts is my answer to the idea that we haven’t.
And yes, there’s a dog. Because, of course, there is.
What to Expect from the Sunrise Beach Series
