January is flying by. Isn’t it? I can’t believe we’re almost halfway through this month of the first quarter already. I’m slowly getting back into a routine–a better one than before my two-week break.
I’ve planned out my goals for the first quarter. I’m learning it’s better if I focus on three months at a time so I don’t feel overwhelmed.
So, let’s take a look at what I would like to accomplish from January to March.
Write another draft of Second Chances
I know I keep saying I’m doing this, and I don’t know what’s stopping me. This is the year I get it done, though. I’m ready to move on and write other books.
With a deadline of Jan. 15, I’ve got a new outline started and am working on it. As soon as I have an outline, I’ll jump into writing the upteenth draft. Seriously, I think I’ve started and/or finished four drafts of this, trying to get it the way I want.
I’ve even thought about doing major rewrites of the first two books, but I know I can’t spend bunches of time on these books. Like I said, I’m ready to move on. I have plenty of other ideas I need to write.
By the end of February, I hope to finish writing this book. Since it’s a leap year, I do have an extra day!
I do have things I keep rolling around in my head and have to decide what to do about a cover. I lost the cover designer I had for Be Strong and Pinky Swear.
Another gal designed the short story/prequel cover for “First Love,” but the fonts don’t quite match. By the way, I’m planning to make “First Love” a printed book, too.
Write my first young adult sweet romance
A couple of years ago, maybe longer, I bought a couple of pre-made covers that I’ve never written a story for. I hope to work on the outline off and on and have it done by the end of February.
In March, I plan to write whatever idea I’ve come up with. I have an idea rolling around in my head right now. This book will probably be a standalone, possibly even a reader magnet, or a free book I’ll give away if you subscribed to my newsletter or you’ll get if you already are subscribed.
Finish some low/no content books
I’ve created several journals and composition notebooks the last couple of years. However, in the last few months, I’ve created a new series of journals and planners called The Creative Series for writers, musicians, and artists. I know some people don’t like to hear the word creative, but I do.
We are creative. We create a product for others to enjoy. I’m using a daily planner I created mainly for writers and authors. I would like to create one for other creatives as well. So many ideas, so little time!
Read nine books
As an author, reading is important to me. I plan to read at least nine books the first three months of the year. I’m reading one right now called Wundersmith by Jessica Townsend. It’s the second book in her series.
If you and/or your child enjoy Harry Potter, you would like this one. It’s not as dark as HP books. Even though the first book says it’s a cross of Rick Riordan’s books and HP, I see these books as more of a cross between HP and Mary Poppins. Anyway, I highly recommend them!
Final thoughts
In conclusion, there are my goals for this first quarter of 2020. I’m ready for the challenge to see what I can accomplish. The first of April, I’ll share how I did.
